How to Accept Payments with OPay Wallet on Hydrogen

Hydrogen Payment Gateway supports multiple payment methods, including Bank Transfer, Card Payments, and now OPay Wallet. This new addition allows customers make payments directly from their OPay account, providing a faster and more convenient checkout experience.

OPay Wallet is a digital wallet service that enables customers to make payments using their OPay account This eliminates the need for card details or bank transfers, making transactions smoother and reducing the likelihood of failed payments. 

How OPay Wallet Works

1. Checkout Process

  • Merchants generate a payment link via the merchant portal or API.
  • Customers will see OPay Wallet as a payment option during checkout.

2. Customer Payment Experience

On Desktop

  • When a customer selects OPay Wallet, they are redirected to OPay’s web interface.
  • On desktop, they are redirected to the OPay Wallet web interface to enter their phone number and Password to confirm the transaction.

On Mobile

  • When a customer selects OPay Wallet on a mobile device, they are automatically prompted to open the OPay app.
  • The payment is completed in one click without needing to manually enter details.

3. OTP Authentication

  • Customers will be required to enter a one-time password (OTP) to verify their payment.
  • Through the OPay web interface on desktop. the user receives an SMS notification on the registered OPay number containing the OTP

4. Payment Confirmation

  • If successful, the customer is redirected to the success screen and receives an email confirmation.
  • If the payment fails, the customer is redirected to a failure screen with details of the issue.

5. Notification & Settlement

  • Merchants and customers receive an email notification with complete transaction details, including OPay as the payment channel.
  • Settlements are processed on a T+1 basis, meaning funds will be credited to the merchant's account the next business day.

OPay Wallet will be enabled by default for all merchants and does not require any special integration. However, if you prefer not to accept OPay Wallet payments, you can request for it to be disabled via the merchant portal or by contacting support.

1. Are there any additional fees for OPay transactions?

Standard transaction fees apply. Kindly review your merchant fee structure for details.

2. What happens if a customer’s payment fails?

The customer will be redirected to the failure screen and can retry with OPay or another payment method.

3. When will I receive my OPay Wallet settlements?

Funds are settled on a T+1 basis—the next business day after the transaction.

4. Can customers use OPay Wallet for recurring payments?

Currently, OPay Wallet supports one-time payments only.
